Anishinaabeg of Naongashiing
The Anishnaabeg of Naongashiing (Big Island) is a First Nation band in Ontario. The band is a member of the Anishinabeg of Kabapikotawangag Resource Council, which is a part of the Grand Council of Treaty 3. It reached legal band status in the mid-1920s.
In 1982, the majority of the Anishnaabeg of Naongashiing people relocated to where they currently reside, Saug-a-gaw-sing No. 1 located on the South East shore of Lake of the Woods. The on-reserve population in 1996 was 115. The total land base is 4, 330 ha, with 100.8 ha inhabited. The band is affiliated with the Algonkian (Ojibway) language.
