Gwawaenuk Tribe
The Gwawaenuk Tribe, or Gwawaʼenux̱w, is a First Nations band of the Kwakwaka'wakw people located in the Queen Charlotte Strait region of the Central Coast region of British Columbia, Canada. Historically, Heghums has been and still is the main village for Gwawaneuk. It is about a 1.5 to 2 hours boat ride from Port McNeil or Port Hardy. The First Nation is a member of the Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw Tribal Council. The people's native language is Kwak̓wala and the tribe's dialect is called Gwawaenuk. As of July 2021, the Nation had 41 registered members, including 12 residing on their own reserve.
