Hornepayne First Nation

About

Hornepayne First Nation is a non-status Ojibwe First Nation band whose reserve is located north of Hornepayne, Ontario, Canada. The band is a member of the Matawa First Nations, a non-profit Regional Chiefs' Council, and the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, a tribal political organization representing the majority of Ojibwe and Cree First Nations in northern Ontario. 

The Hornepayne First Nation is within the boundaries of the community of Hornepayne, which is within the boundaries of the territory described by the James Bay Treaty of 1905- Treaty No.9. It is not a reserve, although it is recognized as a Native Community by Nishnawbe-Aski Nation. Hornepayne First Nation is presently pursuing its separate band status and land base. Languages spoken in the native community are Ojibway, Cree, and English.
