The Huu-ay-aht First Nations is a self-governing band located in the Barkley Sound region on the west coast of Vancouver Island, at the entrance to Alberni Inlet. It is on Pachena Bay. The First Nation is a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and the Maa-nulth Treaty Society. The people originally speak the Nuu-chah-nulth language. Huu-ay-aht First Nations has full ownership and jurisdiction over more than 8,200 hectares of land. As of June 2021, the Nation had a total of 722 registered members, including 99 residing on their own reserve.
