Kwikwasut’inuxw First Nation

Ḵwiḵwa̱sut'inux̱w Ha̱xwa'mis, formerly the Kwicksutaineuk-ah-kwa-mish First Nation, is a First Nations band located on northern Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, in the Queen Charlotte Strait region. It is a member of the Musgamagw Tsawataineuk Tribal Council. The Kwikwasut'inuxw and Haxwa'mis are two of the many subgroups of the peoples known as Kwakwaka'wakw who speak the Kwak'wala language. They were combined into one band by the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. The land base has been confined to 13 reserve sites, a land area of 594.5 km2. The First Nation's main village is Gwa’yasdams and it is located on Gilford Island. As of June 2021, the Nation had a total of 310 registered members, including 44 residing on their own reserve.
