Matachewan First Nation

About

Matachewan First Nation is an Ojibway and Cree First Nation located in the Timiskaming District of Ontario, Canada. The community is located approximately 30 kilometers southeast of the town of Matachewan and about 60 kilometers west of Kirkland Lake off of Highway 66.  

As a signatory to Treaty 9, the First Nation is a member of Wabun Tribal Council and Nishnawbe Aski Nation. Matachewan First Nation has reserved for itself the 4,158.60 hectares (10,276.1 acres) Matachewan 72 reserve. As of May 2021, the band had a total registered population of 940 people, of which 50 people lived on their own reserves.
