Matsqui First Nation

About

The Matsqui First Nation is a band of the Sto:lo Aboriginal group of people located in the Central Fraser Valley region, in the northern part of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. The First Nation is a member of the Sto:lo Nation tribal council. The core traditional territory of the Matsqui stretches along the Fraser River from Crescent Island to Sumas Mountain, and southward beyond the Canada-United States border. The ancestral languages of Matsqui First Nation are Halq'eméylem, hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, and Hul’q’umi’num.’ As of June 2021, the Nation had a total of 265 registered members, including 97 residing on their own reserve.
