Miawpukek First Nation is a Mi'kmaq band located on the south coast of the island part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The band was formerly known as Conne River until the 1980s. The First Nation controls the reserve of Samiajij Miawpukek in Bay d'Espoir on the island of Newfoundland. Samiajij Miawpukek was established as a federal Indian reserve in 1987, the first in Newfoundland and Labrador. The ancestries of the community members include Mi’kmaq, Innu, Abenaki, and European lines. As of August 2021, the Nation had 3,957 registered members, including 817 residing on their own reserve. The native language of the people is Mi’kmaq.
