Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations

About

The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations are a First Nations band on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The band is a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council. Its main reserve is at Gold River, British Columbia, but the Mowachaht people are originally from Yuquot on Nootka Sound, known in history as Friendly Cove. The Mowachaht and Muchalaht are Nuu-chah-nulth. The band formerly consisted of two independent groups — the Tahsis and Tlupana Inlet communities — which amalgamated. As of June 2021, the Nation had a total of 625 registered members, including 225 residing on their own reserve.
