Muscowpetung First Nation

About

The Muscowpetung First Nation is a Saulteaux band in southern Saskatchewan, Canada. The band's reserves include Last Mountain Lake 80A, shared with 6 other bands, Muscowpetung 80, and Treaty Four Reserve Grounds 77, shared with 32 other bands. It is located in Qu’Appelle Valley.

The Muscowpetung First Nation is named for Chief Muscowpetung. On September 8, 1875, Cheekuk a Saulteaux Chief, adhered to Treaty 4 on behalf of his tribe. When Chief Cheekuk passed away in March of 1880, Chief Muscowpetung took over and led the tribe until his death in 1915. 

The Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation currently has nearly 1,600 registered band members with nearly 500 living on reserve in the Qu’Appelle Valley.
