Pauingassi First Nation

About

Pauingassi First Nation is an Anishinaabe (Saulteaux/Ojibwa) First Nation located about 280 km northeast of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and 24 km north of Little Grand Rapids, Manitoba. It is on a peninsula jutting southward into Fishing Lake, a tributary of Berens River. Originally part of Little Grand Rapids First Nation, the Pauingassi received reserve status in 1988 and became a separate band on October 7, 1991.  The First Nation has reserved for itself the Pauingassi First Nation Indian Reserve. As of June 2021, the Nation has a total of 692 registered members, including 622 residing on their own reserve.
