Selkirk First Nation

About

The Selkirk First Nation is a self-governing band in Yukon. Its original population centre was the trading post of Fort Selkirk, along the Yukon River, but most of its citizens now live in Pelly Crossing, Yukon where the Klondike Highway crosses the Pelly River. The language originally spoken by the Selkirk people is Northern Tutchone. The Selkirk First Nation signed a Yukon Land Claims agreement in 1997. The Settlement Land of the Selkirk First Nation is 4,739.68 square km. As of May 2021, the Nation has 669 registered members, including five residing on their own reserve, and 301 living on their own crown land.
