Shishalh Nation

About

The Shishalh Nation, also known as the Sechelt Indian Band, is a self-governing band located in the southern Sunshine Coast region of British Columbia, Canada. The First Nation was an early signatory with the British Columbia government on land claims, and today its former Indian Reserves are now the Sechelt Indian Government District, which has municipal status and comprises 33 land units. The she shashishalhem language is the traditional language spoken by the shíshálh Nation which is a Coast Salish dialect. As of June 2021, the Nation had 1,456 registered members, including 622 residing on their own reserve.
