The Sipekne'katik First Nation is a Mi'kmaq band located in Hants County, Nova Scotia near Shubencadie. The land area of the band spans 12.13 sq. km. It is composed of four reserves located in central Nova Scotia. The reserves are Indian Brook 14, New Ross 20, Pennal 19, and Shubenacadie 19. The band was known as the Shubenacadie First Nation until 2014 when the traditional spelling and pronunciation of its name was officially adopted. Sipekne’katik First Nation is the second largest Mi’kmaq band in Nova Scotia. The band has 2,588 band members, with about 1,244 members residing in the community and 1,344 members residing out of the community. The people's native language is Mi’kmaq.
