White Bear First Nation

About

The White Bear First Nations are a First Nation band in southeastern Saskatchewan, Canada. The Nations bear the name of their Chief Wahpiimusqua (1815-1900, wâpimaskwa, "white bear"), who signed an adhesion to Treaty 4 in 1875. Despite this, he ultimately settled next to Moose Mountain Provincial Park with his band, which is in the Treaty 2 area.

The White Bear First Nations have two reserves, White Bear 70 and Treaty Four Reserve Grounds 77 (shared between 33 First Nations). The band is located 13 kilometres north of Carlyle Saskatchewan on Highway 9 and is 12,040 hectares(120.4 square kilometers) in size.

The traditional languages spoken are Cree, Saulteaux, and Nakota. The name White Bear First Nations is used, as opposed to First Nation, owing to the fact that there are Four Nations living on White Bear; Cree, Saulteaux(Anishanabe), Nakota, and Dakota.
