About

The Yuu_u_i__at_ Government (Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ or Ucluelet First Nation) is a Nuu-chah-nulth nation located on the northwest side of Barkley Sound, Vancouver Island. It signed the Maa-nulth treaty, which has provided it with self-governance since April 2011. The band formerly consisted of several independent groups that lived along the Ucluelet Inlet, Ucluth Peninsula, and the outer coast northward to Green Point on Long Beach, that eventually amalgamated as a nation. Today, the band lives in its traditional village of Hitacu (Ittatsoo). The people speak a dialect of Nuu-chah-nulth (Nuučaan̓uɫ). As of June 2021, the Nation had a total of 675 registered members, including 208 residing on their own reserve.
